Trees on Farms Videos: Returns from Harvesting

Farmers talk about their recent experiences (around 2011) in harvesting small blocks of Radiata pine that were planted for erosion control, or on marginal land. Their income ranged from $15-50,000 /ha, depending on log prices, tree quality and the location of the blocks. All were happy to replant as they had found that for those blocks, trees were clearly the best land use. You can be flexible about choosing when to harvest, and even small blocks can be a good way to diversify income and retire marginal land.
