Government Industry Agreement for biosecurity readiness and response

NZFFA, New Zealand Tree Grower February 2016.

On 5 November last year the forestry industry and the Ministry for Primary Industries signed a Government Industry Agreement which aims to produce an integrated approach to prepare for biosecurity risks and to effectively respond to them. The Forest Owners Association and the NZFFA were represented by David Rhodes who signed the deed on behalf of all forest owners and the government was represented by Nathan Guy, Minister for Primary Industries.

The document signed is well over 20 pages in length but in principle it means that forestry and the government will share the costs of sorting out future biosecurity problems which affect forestry. It is a partnership between government and the forest industry. If you want to know more of the details there is a website www.gia.org.nz where you can obtain a copy of the agreement.
