Site information

"Ribbonwood Station" is situated at the foothills of the Southern Alps. The trial block is at the foot of a hill and relatively less exposed than much of this country. The soil appears reasonably well drained but of relatively low fertility.

A stand of Douglas fir the same age as the cypress block was measured for DBH. Eleven trees were randomly sampled and measured. The average DBH was 30.6 cm. This compared with average diameters for Ferndown of 22.5 cm and Ovensii of 19.8 cm.
